Whether or not to hardwire “open in new tab/window” in links

There is some discussion at the moment of whether or not it would be a good idea to hardwire “open in a new tab/window” into the links from Clilstore units – or at least give the author of the unit the option to do so.  While I agree that opening a link in a new browser tab or window can be very useful (e.g. for units with associated exercises), I feel that it should be left to the user to choose for themselves (using right-click) and that hardwiring is a bad idea.  Other people may feel that the users may not know how to do it for themselves and need help.  I have written up my thoughts here:
